2.How to Choose the Spindle?

In general, the spindles used on the machine have type electric spindles and mechanical spindles.

Electric spindle,the speed is fast, torque is small, high precision, low noise. Electric spindle uses high-speed bearings, wear and heat resistance. The electric spindle have coils inside, and the electric spindle can be driven by the frequency inverter. The mechanical spindle speed is lower than the electric spindle, and the torque is larger. There is no coil inside the mechanical spindle, and it has no power itself, and need to use a servo motor to drive the mechanical spindle by belt or coupling.

When we choose the electric spindle, we need to consider from the following aspects.

From the cooling method, there are air cooling and water cooling. The water-cooled spindle enters the circulating water channel inside the spindle through water or oil, so as to achieve the purpose of cooling the bearing. A water pump is required. The air-cooled spindle uses a fan to cool the spindle and does not need to be matched with a pump, but relatively speaking, the noise of the air-cooled spindle will be larger. If the local ambient temperature is very high, it is recommended to use water-cooled spindle. Because the cooling effect of the air-cooled spindle is less than that of the water-cooled spindle. If the local ambient temperature is very low, it is not recommended to use water cooling spindle, because we need to prevent the cooling water from freezing.

The speed of the spindle is generally 18000RPM and 24000RPM, of course, there also have 30000RPM, 40000RPM, 60000RPM and other higher speed. There also have 9000RPM, 6000RPM, 3000RPM, 1500RPM, 1000RPM and other different speeds.

The power of the spindle is generally 0.4kw-30kw, and there also have more powerful ones. We can choose the right power according to different processing conditions.

In addition, we also need to determine the voltage of the spindle, 110V, 220V, 380V.

Water cooled spindle is generally circular, we need to determine the diameter of the spindle. The air-cooled spindle is generally square, of course, there are also low-power circular air-cooled spindle.

ATC Spindle, tool changer from the cone hole, have ISO20 BT30, ISO30, BT40, BT50, etc.

If we need high torque cutting, choosing a mechanical spindle is a better solution. When we need the product to have a highlight effect, choose the electric spindle will be better.

In general, while we choose the spindle, we need to determine several important parameters: power, speed, voltage, diameter size, ATC or not, cooling mode. We can choose a suitable spindle according to the processing material, the use environment, the processing accuracy requirements, etc.
